Saas Fee

Saas-Fee is the main village in the Saastal or the Saas Valley and is a municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The villages in its neighborhood are Saas-Almagell, Saas-Grund and Saas-Balen

Its location close to the glaciers of the Dom and the Allalinhorn provides winter sport opportunities throughout the year, and neighbouring peaks such as the Weissmies, the Nadelhorn and the Lenzspitze are popular climbs in the summer season. The community is considered to be a very attractive winter sport destination in the Swiss Alps. Typical activities include skiing, carving, snowshoe trekking, canyon climbing and ice climbing.

Saas Fee

Saas-Fee ist eine politische Gemeinde im Bezirk Visp des Kantons Wallis in der Schweiz.

Saas-Fee zählt fast 1700 Einwohner und liegt auf etwa 1800 m ü. M. auf einem Hochplateau des Saastals westlich des Talgrundes oberhalb der Nachbardörfer Saas-Almagell, Saas-Grund und Saas-Balen.
Saas-Fee ist von gut einem Dutzend Viertausender umgeben. Noch bis 1850 ragte der Feegletscher bis kurz vor die Dorfgrenze auf 1'880 m ü. M. Dieser hat sich aber in den letzten Jahrzehnten stark zurückgezogen.

Oberhalb von Saas-Fee befindet sich die meistbesuchte SAC-Hütte der Schweiz, die Britanniahütte. Sie wurde 1912 mit finanzieller Unterstützung der British Association of SAC Members erbaut. Deshalb auch der Name Britanniahütte. Von ihr aus kann man Rimpfischhorn und Strahlhorn noch zusätzlich erblicken. Das Monte-Rosa-Massiv und Zermatt liegen unmittelbar dahinter.
